INTERVIEW What makes a graphic design piece worthy of your merit?
Brandie: A design that's worthy of my merit would be a particular piece that had moved me emotionally. Weather to love or hate something.

What sets an outstanding Filipino graphic design piece apart from just a really good one?
Brandie: It stands out when the quality of the crafting is genius. And the idea is clear and original. That applies to all designers not even Filipinos. I used to think Filipinos needed to show local iconography - but it doesn't make sense in a global market.

What was your lowest low and highest high as a graphic designer?
Brandie: Lowest low would be to see other people's bad work on the street (on billboards) creating a big visual pollution. And even lower then that is when I have work that's equally bad. I get highs when ever I get to think of a new original idea. And get an even better high when that idea gets produced and is experienced by the public. In my case it would be the advertisements I make.

How do you think PGDA will stir the industry?
Brandie: Awards shows help keep us on our feet. It allows for us a chance to push ourselves to create more original ideas. It helps us improve our crafting skills.

What advice do you have for Filipinos who wish to pursue a career in graphic design?
Brandie: Look outside (the country) for quality of work. Look inside (the country) for inspiration.
